The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer Car Program provides interest-free loans to needy individuals who need transportation to obtain work.
In 2007 a parishioner donated $18,000 to establish a fund to help people buy vehicles. Since then, additional contributions from individuals have been received, including gifts of vehicles. The program helps individuals find an appropriate vehicle at a reasonable price and trains the individual on how to care for and maintain the vehicle.
When an appropriate vehicle is found, the Church loans the monies necessary to purchase a vehicle. The Church is the First Lien Holder on the Title. The program also provides money for tires and vehicle repairs. The Car Program works closely with Atlas Ministries, Greensboro, Georgia and Habitat for Humanity to find qualified individuals for the program.
